NSS ANNUAL REPORT 2023-24

July 2023 onwards NSS Units worked tirelessly and in full humanitarian spirit. The units organized a Punjab Flood Relief Drive to support people of Punjab in trying times, with the help of an NGO Youth Voice Foundation the relief was effectively distributed in the affected areas.

Then in the month of August, the volunteers carried out various activities under “Meri MaatiMeraDesh” Campaign. There was tree plantation drive, decorating the campus, writing letters to soldiers, coming dressed in tricolor, singing of patriotic songs on the campus. Followed by AmritKalashYatra, where rice and mud was collected from different areas, brought by students and staff. Then to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand Singh, NSS celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August 2023. The volunteers participated displayed sportsmanship and participated enthusiastically in all the events. An Eye Donation Awareness Programme was organized in collaboration with GMCH 32 Ophthalmology Department on 31st August 2023. The students pledged to donate eyes. The doctors from GMCH 32 cleared doubts regarding taboos attached with donation and motivated them to become a donor.

Next in line were the POSHAN MAAH activities. A session on Nurition for Young Girls was conducted by DrSimran, a dietician. Girls performed a NukkadNatak, took out an awareness rally in Burail and distributed bananas. A healthy tiffin making competition was also organised for the girls. Nss day was celebrated on 24th September, an orientation of the students was conducted by DrIlaRathor Ex NSS PO. She delved on the spirit of NSS and urged the students to imbibe in the spirit of Not Me But You. Following which the students cleaned the campus.

In the month of October, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities were carried out. The college campus was cleaned for a week. A pledge to keep the surroundings clean was administred. On 2nd October Swachhtashramdaan was conducted where voluneers cleaned their surroundings. Later to promote Khaadi products, khadi pledge was taken under KhaadiMahotsav activities. The staff and students came dressed in khadi clothing to promote the use of khadi. A documentary on evolution of khadi was shown to the volunteers. Rashtriyaektadiwas was celebrated on 31st Oct. a rally and pledge to commemorate the day was organsied. A Vocal for Local exhibition was organized on 06th Nov where Khadi India put up stalls, Charkas were put on display along with local products. On 26th Nov, Constitution Day was celebrated by organizing an online session on “ Know Your Constitution” delivered by AdvGurbir Singh Dhillon to the students. He briefed the students on making of the constitution and its contents. It proved to be a beneficial session. A copy of the constitution was also shared with the students. To promote Green Diwali, the volunteers painted and decorated mud diyas and distributed to the community workers with the message of spreading happiness.

On 14th Nov, Childrens Day & Kindness Day was celebrated by distributing goodies, stationary items and books to less privileged students of the society in Burial and Sec 45. This small gesture brought happiness on their faces. National Youth Day was celebrated by organizing a session on “ Todays youth for Yesteryears Youth” by DrSavneet, HoD Psychology Dept, GGSCW Chd. She told the girls to spend time with their grandparents and involve them in their daily life activities. Followed by this the students spent time with their grandparents and clicked selfies with them. Nss camp was organsied on the theme :”Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Health & Hygiene” from 27th Feb- 04th March 2024. A number of activities were planned to holistic develop the personality of the volunteers. A session on CPR, First Aid Training aimed to teach them basic life saving techniques. A session on Menstrual Health was conducted by DrSunaina, she busted myths attached with menstruation in our society. Yoga sessions and Self Defence Training sessions empowered girls with heath and self -safety. A Blood donation camp was the highlight of the camp which was organized with PGIMER and Sukh Foundation. Sports activities, campus cleaning and decorating, awareness on E waste Management, Voting rights, Baking session were also part of the camp. NSS Volunteers actively participated in the Pulse Polio Drive in Village Burail and Sector 45. The girls underwent a training first given by doctors from Civil Hospital Sec 45 and then went door to door to administer polio drops. They successfully covered the entire area assigned to them. Along with ELC an awareness campaign under “ MeraPehla Vote DeshKeLiye” was carried out in full spirit. A signature campaign, online pledge, selfie corner etc were conducted to create maximum awareness to the first time voters. On 15th March, Women empowerment Session in collaboration with I-Volunteer was organised for women from Burail. The session aimed at empowering them with schemes offered by the government for them.
